MDI Falls to Winslow 26-14 [PHOTOS]

The MDI Trojans Football team fell to Winslow 26-14 in Bar Harbor on Friday, September 21st in a game that was much closer than the final score indicated. MDI actually outgained Winslow on the ground 225 to 211 yards and passing yardage was virtually identical as MDI had 30 yards and Winslow 31 yards.

Winslow won the coin toss and chose to defer, so MDI received the ball and took the kickoff back to the 36 yard line. Their offense wasn't able to get a first down, and had to punt with Winslow taking over on their own 38 yard line with 9:47 remaining in the 1st Quarter.

The Black Raiders effectively moved the ball down the field but their drive was stopped after 5:02 when Baylor Landsman picked off a Colby Pomeroy pass on the left side, giving the Trojans the ball on their 48 yards line after a good return by Landsman.

MDI moved the ball but this time Landsman had his pass picked off, and Winslow took over on their own 41 yard line with 3:02 remaining in the 1st Quarter.

Winslow went on a long drive, taking 6:29 before the MDI defense stiffened and forced the Black Raiders to turn the ball over on downs, stopping them on their own 4 yard line.

MDI took over on their 4 yard line with 8:33 remaining in the 1st Half. The Trojans then moved the ball 96 yards, taking 7:17 off the clock before Elijah Joyce scored from 5 yards out. Joyce then ran in for the 2 yard conversion, and with 1:16 left in the 1st Half the Trojans led 8-0.

Isaiah Goldsmith then took the returning kickoff 90 yards for what appeared to be a touchdown, only to have the TD nullified for a block in the back penalty. However, Winslow took the ball and drove down the field for the tying score as Pomeroy completed a y yard pass to Nathan Newgard. The 2 point conversion was good, as Pomeroy completed a pass to Marek Widerysnki and the 1st Half ended with the score tied 8-8

Winslow received the ball to start the 2nd Half and took over at their own 11:53. Their drive was thwarted as Jakob Gregory, playing in his 1st game of the season picked off the pass and MDI took over at their own 11 yard line with 7:42 remaining in the 3rd Quarter.

Winslow's defense held MDI, and they were forced to punt, and Winslow took over on the MDI 46 yard line with 5:21 remaining in the 3rd Quarter.

The Black Raiders scored on a drive that took 2:02 capped by a Benjamin Dorval 39 yard run around the right side. The 2 point conversion was no good, and Winslow led 14-8

MDI took the kick back to the 50 yard line, but fumbled on the 1st play, with the ball popping into the hands of Cody Ivey who returned the ball to the MDI 20 yard line.

A few plays later Winslow was in the end zone after Pomeroy ran in from 6 yards out. The 2 point conversion was no good, and Winslow led MDI 20-8 with 1:42 left in the 3rd Quarter.

MDI took over on their own 20 yard line and went on a 80 yard drive that took 7:50. The drive was capped off when Elijah Joyce ran in from 1 yard out. MDI attempted a pass for the 2 point conversion, but it was no good, and that made the score 20-14 with 5:43 remaining in the 4th Quarter.

Winslow took over the ball on their own 46 yard line and scored 3:15 later, as Alex Demers scored from 1 yard out. The 2 point conversion was no good, making the score 26-14.

MDI's final drive ended when Benjamin Dorval intercepted Landsman at the Winslow 31 yard line with 1:04 remaining. Winslow ran 2 plays and the game was over.

MDI, now 1-3 will play at Hermon (3-1) on Friday, September 28th in a game that will be broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device with the pregame starting at 6:40 and kickoff at 7PM

Winslow, 3-1 plays host to Lawrence on Saturday September 29th at 1PM.
