A new chapter in the story book rivalry between MDI and Ellsworth High Schools was written on Thursday, February 17th, when the MDI and Ellsworth Unified Basketball Teams met for the first time at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth. But, this game came with lots of smiles and high fives and both squads rooting for the other.

In the end, MDI edged out Ellsworth 59-57. Ellsworth led 29-28 at the end of the 1st Half.

For MDI Zachary Johnson had a game high 18 points. Cameron Swan, Sara St. Clair and Aaron Lichtenstein each had 8 points. Isaac Philbrook had 7 points with a 3-pointer. Faith Mitchell had 6 points and Nellie Page had 4 points.

For Ellsworth Makayla Chase had 14 points, Renee Ouellette had 12 points, Robbie Walters, Brandon Garland and Kyle Hallett each had 8 points while Alysse Frye had 7 points with a 3-pointer.

If you haven't been to a Unified Basketball game this season, please go! It will be one of the best hours you have spent all week! The smiles, high fives and enthusiasm are contagious!

MDI's next Unified Game is Tuesday February 28th at Hampden at 4 PM. The next home game is Monday, March 6th at 3:30 against Ellsworth.

Ellsworth's next Unified Game is WEDNESDAY, March 1st at Ellsworth at 3:30 against the Bucksport Golden Bucks.
