MDI Boys Run Past Presque Isle 92-61

The MDI Boys Basketball Team ran past Presque Isle 92-61 in Presque Isle on New Year's Day in a game that was played in the 4th gear by both teams. MDI had 3 players in double figures and Grady Wellman-Webster scored his 1st varsity point with 1:37 left in the game going 1-2 from the free throw line

MDI jumped out to a 27-11 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Porter Isaacs dominated down low, scoring 11 points. Brady Renault had 6 points with a 3-pointer. Cadin Lunt, Jack DaCorte, Erik Merchant, Charlie Parker and Nate Philbrook all scored 2 points for the Trojans. For Presque Isle Caleb Wheaton had 5 points, Malachi Cummings 4 points, with a 3-pointer and Nathan Willett 2 points.

Presque Isle outscored MDI 22-19 in the 2nd Quarter, but MDI led 46-33 at the end of the 1st Half. For the Trojans, Isaacs had 5 more points, Jack DaCorte had 4 points and Renault was 3-4 from the free throw line for 3 points. Nate Philbrook had 3 points and Ethan Merchant and Will Hodgdon had 2 points each. For the Wildcats, Cummings had 10 points with 2 3-pointers. Wheaton had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Connor Rideout was 3-4 from the free throw line, Noah Flynn was 2-2 from the free throw line and Mason Fletcher had 2 points.

The pace quickened in the 3rd Quarter with MDI outscoring Presque Isle 25-15 to take a 71-48 lead. DaCorte had 9 points with a 3-pointer. Renault had 8 points and Ethan Merchant had 4 points while Charlie Parker added 2 points. For Presque Isle Cummings had 5 points with his 4th 3-pointer. Sam Beaulieu had 4 points, while Wheaton, Fletcher and Rideout each had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter DaCorte had 9 points with his 2nd 3-pointer of the game to pace MDI. Porter Isaacs had 7 points. Charlie Parker was 2-4 from the free throw line. Will Hodgdon had 2 points and Wellman-Webster 1 point. For Presque Isle Willett and Rideout each had 4 points while Wheaton had 3 points and Xavier McAtee had 2 points.

MDI was paced by Jack DaCorte with 24 points while Porter Isaacs had 23 points and Brady Renault a career high 19 points. The Trojans were 17-22 from the free throw line

Presque Isle was led by Malachi Cummings wiht 19 points while Caleb Wheaton had 15 points. The Wildcats were 16-24 from the free throw line.

MDI now 3-4 will play at MCI in Pittsfield on Saturday, January 4th at 1 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Presque Isle, now 3-5 will play at Waterville on Saturday, January 4th at 4:30 p.m.
