MDI Boys Rally to Beat Mt. View 57-47
The MDI Boys Basketball Team hasn't had much luck winning prelim games. As a matter of fact, they had lost the last 4 prelim games they played. But on Wednesday, February 12th, they rallied from 9 points down, to beat the Mt. View Mustangs 57-47 in Bar Harbor to advance to the Cross Insurance Center, where they will meet the top seeded Caribou Vikings on Saturday, February 15th at 3:30 p.m.
MDI trailed 15-8 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Declan Knowlton had 6 points for Mt. View. Draedyn Furrow had 5 points, Elijah Allen had a 3-pointer and Garrett Smith had 2 points. For MDI Jack DaCorte had a 3-pointer. Ethan Merchant and Nate Philbrook each were 2-2 from the free throw line and Charlie Parker was 1-2 from the free throw line.
Mt.View increased their lead at the half, as they outscored MDI 13-11 to take a 28-19 lead at the Half. Smith had 7 points for the Mustangs with a 3-pointer. Joe Grassi, Knowlton and Allen each had 2 points. For MDI DaCorte had points with his 2nd 3-pointer. Porter Isaacs had 4 points. Nate Philbrook had 2 points.
MDI cut Mt.Views lead to 2 points 36-34 at the end of the 3rd Quarter, outscoring the Mustangs, 15-8. Isaacs, Philbrook and Brady Renault each had 4 points. Maddox Laurendeau was fouled shooting a 3-pointer and was 2-3 from the line. Ethan Merchant was 1-2 from the line. For the Mustangs Sean Raven had 4 points. Neal Kenny had a 3-pointer and Elijah Allen was 1-2 from the free throw line.
In the 4th Quarter, MDI outscored Mt.Vernon 23-11going 12-16 from the free throw line., Nate Philbrook and Jack DaCorte each had 8 points. Brady Renault had 4 points, Charlie Parker 2 points and Ethan Merchant 1 point. For Mt. View Garrett Smith had 6 points, Furrow 4 points and Elijah Allen 1 point.
MDI was led by Jack DaCorte and Nate Philbrook each of whom had 16 points. The Trojans were 23-34 from the free throw line
Mt.View was led by Garrett Smith with 15 points while Draedyn Furrows and Declan Knowlton each had 8 points The Mustangs were 8-12 from the free throw line.
Mount View's season comes to an end, and they finish 9-10 on the year.
MDI, the 8th seed, are now 9-10 and will play the top-seeded Caribou Vikings on Saturday, February 15th from the Cross Insurance Center at 3:30 p.m. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
