MDI Boys Pull Away in 4th Quarter Beat Old Town 68-57 [PHOTOS]
Coming off their 3rd loss of the season on Saturday to Hermon, the MDI Boys Basketball Team had a strong all around effort, defeating the Old Town Coyotes with a 21 point 4th Quarter, winning 68-57 in Mackenzie Gymnasium in Old Town on Wednesday, January 23rd.
One of the plays of the game occurred in the 4th Quarter with less than 2 minutes left in the game. Old Town was taking the ball in, and Shawn Hoogterp, Old Town's best 3-point shooter was letting the ball roll (the clock wouldn't start until he touched the ball after a time out).Brett Duley who had held Hoogterp in check the 2nd Half dove for the ball and Hoogterp fouled Duley, who had tipped the ball. That was Hoogterp's 5th foul, causing him to foul out, and not be available for the Coyotes in the final minutes of the game!
MDI led 20-19 in the 1st Quarter. Duley had 2 3's and 8 points in the 1st Quarter. Drew Shea, coming off the bench had 6 points, Derek Collin 4 points and Steven Pierce 2 points. For the Coyotes Colby Archer had 8 points with 2 3's, Dom Mitchell had 4 points, Hoogterp a 3-pointer and Jacob Cyr and Mike Brown 2 points each.
Old Town led 36-33 at the end of the 1st Half. Cyr and Hoogterp each had 5 points with a 3-pointer for the Coyotes. Archer had a 3-pointer and Brown and Mitchell 2 points each. The Coyotes had 6 3's in the 1st Half. MDI received 7 points from Collin, 4 points from Shea and 2 points from Duley.
MDI took a 47-46 at the end of the 3rd Quarter as they extended their defense and didn't allow a 3-pointer. Collin had 7 point, and Duley 4 points for MDI. Brown and Mitchell had 4 points each and Matt Seymour 2 points.
In the 4th Quarter MDI's offense exploded with Collin scoring 8 points, Eli Parady 6 points, Steven Pierce 5 points and Brett Duley 2 points. Meanwhile, MDI's defense held Old Town to 3 points midway through the Quarter. Cyr scored 5 points with a 3-pointer, Seymour had a 3-pointer, Archer 2 points and Brown 1 point.
MDI was led by Derek Collin with a game high 26 points. Brett Duley had 16 points and Drew Shea and Steven Pierce 10 points each. The Trojans were 14-17 from the free throw line.
Old Town was led by Colby Archer with 13 points. Jacob Cyr had 12 points and Dom Mitchell 10 points. The Coyotes were 1-5 from the free throw line.
MDI is now 9-3 and in 3rd place. They will play the 2nd place Caribou Vikings on Friday night, January 25th in Caribou at 7:30PM. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
Old Town is 3-12 and plays host to Hermon on Saturday , January 26th at 3:30
