MDI Boys Fall to Presque Isle 58-56 [PHOTOS]

Friday night, January 24th was a tale of 2 halves, as the MDI Trojans Boys Basketball Team fell to Presque Isle 58-56 at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor. MDI led comfortably by 10 points at the end of the 1st Half, 34-24 before Presque Isle outscored them 34-22 in the 2nd Half, including 16-9 in the 4th Quarter.

MDI jumped out to a 17-13 1st Quarter lead. Porter Isaacs was a force in the paint, scoring 6 points. Jack DaCorte had 4 points, Cadin Lunt had a 3-pointer and Brady Renault and Ethan Merchant each had 2 points. For Presque Isle, Malachi Cummings had a 3-pointer, Xavier McAtee had 4 points, Caleb Wheaton 4 points and Connor Rideout 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter, MDI increased their lead to 10 points, outscoring the Wildcats 17-11 to take a 34-24 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Nate Philbrook had 6 points for MDI. Cadin Lunt had 4 points and Porter Isaacs and Will Hodgon 2 points each. For Presque Isle Xavier McAtee had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Caleb Wheaton had a 3-pointer and Noah Flynn 2 points. Nathan Willett was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 3rd Quarter MDI led by as much as 14 before Presque Isle outscored them 18-13 to cut the lead to 5, 47-42 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. For Presque Isle Cumming had 7 points including a 3-pointer. Wheaton had 5 points, Connor Albertson 4 points and Mason Fletcher 2 points. For MDI Isaacs and Ethan Merchant each had 4 points. Brady Renault was 4-4 from the free throw line for 4 points and Nate Philbrook was 1-2 from the charity stripe for 1 point.

In the 4th Quarter the Wildcats came out blazing. Wheaton had 8 points including 2 3-pointers. Cimmings had 5 points, going 3-5 from the free throw line. McAtee had 2 points and Willett was 1-2 from the line. For MDI DaCorte had 5 points, and Isaacs and Renault 2 points each.

MDI was led by Porter Isaacs with 14 points. Jack DaCorte had 9 points. MDI was 12-15 from the free throw line.

Presque Isle had 3 players in double figures. Caleb Wheaton had a game high 20 points. Malachi Cummings had 15 points and Xavier McAtee 11 points. The Wildcats were 10-19 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 6-8 and will play host to Caribou on Saturday, January 25th at 2:30 in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
