MDI Boys Beat Old Town 67-52 [STATS]

The MDI Boy's Basketball Team withstood a 13-0 run to start the 3rd Quarter and beat the Old Town Coyotes 67-52 at Mackenzie Gymnasium in Old Town on Tuesday, January 7th.

MDI led 15-10 at the end of the 1st Quarter, as Preston Tripp hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Trojans extended their lead to 14 points at the end of the 1st Half, 38-24, as they outscored Old Town 23-14 in the 2nd Quarter. The 3rd Quarter belonged to the Coyotes, as they outscored MDI 18-6, led by Emmitt Byther who had 8 points in the Quarter. MDI led 44-42 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. MDI protected the lead, never losing it, going 8-10 from the free throw line in the 4th Quarter and won 67-52.

The Trojans were led by James Witham with 22 points, including 5 3-pointers. Dylan Stoll had 15 points, with 2 3-pointers. Preston Tripp had 8 points with 2 3-pointers. Jarron Biekert had 8 points and led the team in rebounding. James Downey, while not scoring, had meaningful minutes in the 1st Half for the Trojans. MDI finished 12-18 from the free throw line.

Old Town was led by Emmitt Byther with a game-high 26 points, including 3 3-pointers. Brady Paradis had 11 points and Ethan Closson had 10 points with a 3-pointer. Tyler Priest also drained a 3-pointer. The Coyotes were 5-9 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 4-4. They will play at Orono on Saturday, January 11th at 4:30 p.m.

Old Town is now 3-6. They will play at home against Houlton on Thursday, January 9th at 7 p.m.
