MDI Boys Beat Oceanside 76-59 [PHOTOS]
The MDI Boys Basketball Team outrebounded Oceanside and received scoring from 9 players, including Lucas Keene who scored his varsity points to beat the Oceanside Mariners 76-59 at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor on Saturday, December 15th.
The Trojans jumped out to a 19-8 lead in the 1st Quarter. Drew Shea had 6 points including a 3-pointer. Derek Collin had 4 points and Charlie Parker a 3-pointer. Cadin Lunt, Erik Merchant and Porter Isaacs each had 2 points. Cooper Wirklala had 5 points and Jack Lombardo a 3-pointer for Oceanside.
In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Oceanside 10-7 to take a 29-15 lead. Eli Parady had 4 points in the paint, while Isaacs, Shead and Collin each had 2 points each for MDI. For Oceanside Wirkala had 5 points including a 3-pointer and Lombardo 2 points.
The 3rd Quarter saw MDI increase their lead even more as they outscored Oceanside 20-14 and it was 49-29 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Shea had 5 points, Parady 4 points, Kyle Nicholson banked in a 3-pointer and looked over to the bench like he had figured out the mathematical angle the entire time. Charlie Parker, Cadin Lunt, Derek Collin and Porter Isaacs each added 2 points for the Trojans. For Oceanside Amos Anderson had 6 points, Lombardo 5 points, with a 3-pointer and Wirkala a 3-pointer.
In the 4th Quarter Trevor Reed had 14 points for Oceanside including 4 3's and Wirkala 16 points including 1 3-pointer, but MDI kept pace getting 25 points in a high scoring quarter. Collin had 8 points, Shea 5 points, Parady and Merchant 4 points each and Lunt, Parker and Keene each chipped in 2 points.
MDI was led by Drew Shea with 18 points and Derek Collin had 16 points. Eli Parady had 12 points. The Trojans were 13-24 from the free throw line.
Oceanside was led by Cooper Wirkala with a game high 29 points. Trevor Reed had 14 points and Jack Lombardo 10 points. Oceanside was 6-9 from the free throw line.
MDI, now 2-1 will travel to East Machias on Tuesday, December 18th to play Washington Academy at 6:30PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
