Anytime that the MDI and Ellsworth Basketball Teams meet on the basketball court you can be assured that the game will be one to be remembered and Thursday night's game didn't disappoint. The MDI Boys beat Ellsworth 75-71 in overtime on February 11th at Bernard Parady Gymnasium.

Ellsworth came out flying running out to a 10-0 lead, but MDI then outscored Ellsworth 14-8, as the Eagles led 18-14 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Chance Mercier had 8 points with 2 3-pointers. Michael Palmer had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Eamon MacDonald had a 3-pointr and Hunter Curtis added 2 points for the Eagles. For MDI  Walker St. Germain had 4 points. Maddox Laurendeau and Brady Renault each had a 3-pointer and Spencer Laurendeau and Porter Isaacs had 2 points each.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Ellsworth 23-17 to take a 37-15 lead at the end of the 1st Half, and it would have been a larger lead had Chance Mercier not hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the Eagles. Maddox Laurendeau had 8 points for MDI with a 3-pointer. Brady Renault had 7 points for the Trojans with a 3-pointer. Porter Isaacs had 4 points in the paint, and Grady Wellman-Webster and Charlie Parker each went 2-2 from the free throw line. For Ellsworth Chance Mercier had 9 points including the 3-pointer at the buzzer. Hunter Curtis had 6 points and Michael Palmer 2 points for the Eagles.

The game was tied 57-57 at the end of the 3rd Quarter as Ellsworth outscored MDI 20-18. For Ellsworth Chance Mercier had 9 points including another 3-pointer. Hunter Curtis had 4 points, Miles Palmer a 3-pointer and Michael Palmer 2 points. For MDI Porter Isaacs had 7 points, dominating in the paint. Brady Renault had anotheer 3-pointer. Charlie Parker and Spencer Laurendeau each had a bucket and Ethan Merchant was 2-2 from the free throw line.

The game was tied at regulation at 67-67 as Ethan Merchant tried a 3-pointer for the win with just seconds remaining and Porter Isaac wasn't able to put the rebound in when the horn sounded. For MDI Wellman-Webster and Renault each had a 3-pointer. Maddox Laurendeau, Charlie Parker and Porter Isaacs each had 2 points. For Ellsworth they hit free throws in the 4th Quarter, going 8-11. Chance Mercier and Hunter Curtis each had 5 points and each went 3-4 from the free throw line. Brody Mercier was 2-2 from the free throw line.

In Overtime, Porter Isaacs had 4 points for the Trojans, Grady Wellman-Webster had a 3-pointer and Maddox Laurendeau went 1-2 from the free throw line. For Ellsworth Brett Bragdon had 2 points and Hunter Curtis was 2-2 from the free throw line.

MDI was led by Porter Isaacs with 19 points and Maddox Laurendeau and Brady Renault each had 15 points. The Trojans were 11-20 from the free throw line. MDI drained 8 3-pointers with Brady Renault having 4, and Maddox Laurendeau and Grady Wellman Webster 2 each.

Ellsworth was led by Chance Mercier with a game high 33 points while Hunter Curtis had 19 points. Ellsworth was 14-20 from the fee throw line and hit 7 3-pointers. Chance Mercier had 4 of them with Miles Palmer, Eamon MacDonald and Michael Palmer each hitting 1.

MDI is back in action on Saturday, when they will play host to Hampden Academy at 2 p.m. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
