The MDI Boys Basketball Team beat the Ellsworth Eagles 49-37 on Thursday, February 7th at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in the last game of the regular season. The loss dropped Ellsworth from 4th to 6th place in the Class B North Heal Points.  Ellsworth will have to play a prelim game on Wednesday, February 13th at home against Winslow, with the winner opening up Tourney 2019 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor against MDI on Friday, February 15th at 5PM.

Thursday night MDI jumped out to a  10-7 lead in the 1st Quarter. Brett Duley and Drew Shea each had 5 points for MDI, each with a 3-pointer. For Ellsworth Connor Crawford had a 3-pointer and Devin Grindle and Jackson Curtis each had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Ellsworth 17-7 to take a 27-14 halftime lead. Duley and Shea each had 6 points in the Quarter. Kyle Nicholson had a 3-pointer and Erik Merchant had 2 points.  For Ellsworth Devin Grindle had a 3-pointer and Brett Bragdon and Jackson Curtis each had 2 points.

MDI increased their lead to 19 points in the 3rd Quarter 40-21. MDI drained 3 3's in the Quarter. Nicholson had 5 points with a 3-pointer and Derek Collin and Drew Shea each had a 3-pointer while Brett Duley had 2 more points. For Ellsworth Darby Barry had a 3-pointer and Hunter Curtis and Noah Neleski each had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter Jackson Curtis had 4 points, and Devin Grindle and Brett Bragdon each had a 3-pointer for Ellsworth. Norman Jodrey, Austin Harris and Malcolm Svec each had 2 points. For MDI Porter Isaacs had 4 points and Derek Collin and Eli Parady each had 2 points. Steven Pierce was 1-2 from the free throw line.

MDI was led by Drew Shea with a game high 14 points and Brett Duley had 13 points.

Ellsworth was led by Jackson Curtis and Devin Grindle each with 8 points.

MDI finishes the regular season 13-5 and in 3rd place in the Heal Point Standings. They will open Tourney 2019, Friday, February 15th against the winner of the 6-11 prelim game (Ellsworth-Winslow) at 5PM. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Ellsworth finishes the regular season at 12-6 and will place Winslow the the 11th seed in a prelim game on Wednesday, February 13th at 6PM at home in Katsiaficas Gymnasium. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device. The winner of that game goes to Tourney 2019 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor against MDI  in the opening game.
