The MDI Trojans Boy's Basketball Team beat a tough Orono Red Riots Team in Orono on Friday, February 1st, 66-44 for a huge bounce back win, after losing to Hermon on Thursday, January 31st.

MDI jumped out to a 19-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Erik Merchant, inserted back into the starting lineup had the early hot hand, scoring 6 points. Derek Collin and Porter Isaacs each had 4 points. Drew Shea had a 3-pointer and Brett Duley had 2 points.  For Orono Connor Robertson drained 2 long 3's for 6 points, and Sam Martin and Jason Desisto each had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter, Orono went on a 8-2 run before MDI closed out the 2nd Quarter on a 9-0 run.MDI led at the Half 30-18. MDI was led by Drew Shea with 7 points with a 3-pointer, and Derek Collin had 4 points. For Orono, Ryan Shorette had a 3-pointer, Martin had 3 points and Robertson 2 points.

In the 3rd Quarter MDI outscored Orono 16-14 to take a 46-32 lead. Shea and Isaacs each had 4 points for MDI. Erik Merchant a 3-pointer and Kyle Nicholson and Eli Parady chipped in 2 points, while Collin was 1-2 from the free throw line. For Orono, Martin and Desisto each had 4 points while Willem Crane had a 3-pointer. Robertson had 2 points and Shorette was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 4th Quarter Eli Parady had 6 points within the paint for MDI. Erik Merchant had 4 points with a 3-pointer. Nicholson and Cadin Lunt each had a 3-pointer. Brady Renault and Derek Collin each had 2 points. For Orono Robertson had 7 points with 2 3's. Zach Dill drained a 3-pointer and Desisto had 2 more points.

MDI had 3 players with double figures. Drew Shea had 14 points, Erik Merchant 13 points and Derek Collin 11 points. MDI was 2-6 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Connor Robertson with a game high 17 points while Sam Martin had 9 points. The Red Riots were 3-8 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 11-5 with 2 games remaining in the regular season. MDI plays at home on Senior Recognition Night on Tuesday, February 5th at 7PM and then closes out the regular season on Thursday, February 7th in Ellsworth against the Ellsworth Eagles. Orono is now 9-7 and plays at Hermon on Tuesday, February 5th and then closes out the regular season on Thursday, February 7th at Old Town.
