MDI 41 Ellsworth 34 [Box Score/PHOTOS]

The MDI Trojans got all they could handle from the Ellsworth Eagles on Tuesday, January 5th in Bar Harbor, and hung on to beat the Eagles 41-34. In 10 years of broadcasting the MDI-Ellsworth games, this is the best that I have seen the Ellsworth Girls play against the Trojans!

MDI led 11-8 at the end of the 1st Quarter, as Maya Watras banked in a 3-pointer for the Trojans at the buzzer. Maddie Candage had 4 points for the Trojans. Ellsworth received 2 points each from Caitlyn Bean, Hannah Sargent, Sammy Mason and Kate Whitney.

In the 2nd Quarter, Sierra Tapley scored 13 points for MDI including a 3-pointer, before landing on her knee and leaving the game. Card had a 3-pointer for Ellsworth, and at the end of the 1st Half, MDI was up 29-17.

In the 3rd Quarter, Ellsworth outscored MDI 10-6, but MDI led 35-27 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Whitney had 8 points for Ellsworth including a 3-pointer. Kelsey Shaw scored 4 points for MDI.

In the 4th Quarter, Ellsworth got within 3 points, but couldn't get closer. Maddie Card had 7 points including 1 3-pointer for Ellsworth.

MDI was led by Sierra Tapley with 15 points, while Kelsey Shaw had 9 points and Maddy Candage had 8 points. MDI was 3-8 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Kate Whitney with 11 points, and Madison Card had 10 points. Ellsworth was 2-7 from the free throw line.

MDI improves to 7-1, and will play host to John Bapst on Thursday, January 7th at 7 PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.

Ellsworth falls to 7-2 and will play at Houlton on Saturday, January 9th at 3:30 in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.
