Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 19-25 and we want to thank all the volunteers who help out and donate countless numbers of hours to Maine's non-profits, churches, hospitals, clubs and organizations!

It seems that we are all working more hours just to keep up, not get ahead, keep up. Businesses have cut back on employees which means that those who are employed have to work harder, and may have less energy to volunteer, but yet they do.

I love how many of Maine's high schools have a community volunteer requirement in order to graduate. High school students have to complete so many volunteer hours before they graduate, with the hours varying by school. It certainly isn't a onerous number, but it teaches the importance of volunteering.

And to all the seniors who volunteer now that they are retired, thank you! Many of you are the backbones of Maine's non-profits and they couldn't operate without you!

There are so many groups, and businesses and organizations that would welcome your volunteer hours. You could check with your local church, food pantry, fire department, animal shelter, little league, girl or boy scout troop, or local library to name just a few! Heck you can even volunteer to give blood thru a Red Cross blood drive! There are organizations like Friends in Acton and Island Connections in Downeast Maine that need volunteers to drive seniors and those with disabilities to the doctors or to the grocery store! If you are stuck for a place to volunteer in Maine, send me a email at chris.popper@townsquaremedia.com and I'll send you 5 suggestions in your area!

Thank you to all the volunteers! This week is for you!
