Local Youth to Host 2nd Rally and March in Solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement Sunday June 14th
For the 2nd consecutive Sunday, local youth are hosting a rally and march in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement , Sunday, June 14th at 5 p.m. on the Village Green in Bar Harbor.
According to a press release the rally and march will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. to demand racial equality, both on the island and nation-wide. This march’s general message is that real societal change has to come from the community holding itself accountable. This is a slight variation on last week’s theme, which revolved around the idea that, to start the process of change, individuals must commit to making themselves anti-racist.
Sunday's speakers consist of students from MDI High School and community members, including but not limited to, Sara Hernandez, Eliza Ramos, and Kassandra Robledo. After the rally, the organizers will lead a march around Bar Harbor, beginning and ending at the Village Green.
According to the organizers, for protection against COVID-19, masks are required at the march, and will be provided for those who don’t have any.
