John Bapst Shocks Ellsworth 45-33
A night after the Ellsworth Girl's Basketball Team stunned John Bapst, the John Bapst Boy's Basketball Team returned the favor on Tuesday, February 7th, shocking the Ellsworth Boy's Basketball Team 45-33 in the penultimate game of the 2016-17 regular season for the two teams.
Ellsworth took a 9-8 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. In the 1st Quarter Jackson Curtis had 3 points, and Zach Harris, Bryce Harmon and Jared Hamilton each had 2 points for the Ellsworth Eagles. For John Bapst Alex Mooney had 6 points and Noah Tomah had 2 points.
Ellsworth led 19-18 at the end of the 1st Half. Bryce Harmon had 4 points for Ellsworth, Zach Harris had a 3-pointer and Jackson Curtis had 3 points as well for the Eagles. For John Bapst Darren Hanscom and Isaac Wardwell each had a 3-pointer and JJ Higgins and Noah Tomah each had 2 points.
In the 3rd Quarter, John Bapst outscored Ellsworth 11-5 to take a 29-24 lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter. For the Crusaders, Alex Mooney had 5 points including a 3-pointer and Darren Hanscom, JJ Higgins and Noah Tomah all chipped in 2 points. For Ellsworth Zach Harris had all of the Eagle's points including a 3-pointer.
In the 4th Quarter John Bapst outscored Ellsworth 16-9 to pull ahead for good. In the 4th Quarter Bapst was 12-14 from the free throw line. Mooney and Higgins had 5 points, while Hanscom, James Butler and Tomah each had 2 points for the Crusaders. For Ellsworth Jared Hamilton had 4 points, Jackson Curtis had a 3-pointer and Zach Harris had 2 points.
Ellsworth was led by Zach Harris with 12 points while Jackson Curtis had 9 points. Ellsworth was 9-15 from the free throw line.
John Bapst was led by Alex Mooney with a game high 17 points while Noah Tomah had 8 points. The Crusaders were 14-23 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth is now 8-9 on the season and will play host to the MDI Trojans in the final game of the season on Thursday, February 9th with the pregame at 6:30 PM and the tip-off at 7 PM on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio and on our free dowloadable APP, sponsored by First National Bank.
