Free Outdoor Movies in Maine This Summer 2026
How excited do you get when you can feel that summer air and bright sun shining in Maine? It's got me thinking about all the possible fun things to do, including concerts, beach visits, road trips, food adventures, and free activities for the whole family.
One free event in particular is the return of the outdoor summer movies. All across the state, there are night showings in the park where you and your kids can watch without having to pay a big admission fee to get in. (Sure, I love going to see new films on the big screen, but for a family of four, you're heading closer to $100 for tickets and food.)
It's a great way to kick back and relax, feel the fresh air, connect with your local community and catch an entertaining flick with your family. A number of them have already been announced.
Free Outdoor Movies in Maine for Summer 2026
Numerous towns and cities in Maine host their own respective summer movie shows, and many have been doing it for years.
As part of L.L. Bean's Summer in the Park event, the Freeport location has a Friday Family Movie Night.
For six weeks, you and your crew can head to the Discovery Park (where the summer concert series also takes place), find a seat on the grass, and watch a kid-friendly movie that starts at 7 p.m.
Oh, and if you want to shell out a few bucks, some food trucks will be there before the show starts, 4-7 p.m. If you're feeling hungry.
Meanwhile, Bangor Parks and Recreation is teaming up with Waterfront Concerts for their Movie in the Park 2026 at the Maine Savings Amphitheater, and Brunswick will have a slew of films to see at Nathaniel Park, as well as some free food you can chow on right before.
And that's only the beginning.
Let's take a look and see what and when the outdoor movies are this season in Maine:

There's just something about watching a movie outside on a warm Maine summer night. The fresh air, the sound of kids playing before the show starts, and the chance to spend some time together without spending a fortune seems like a pretty good way to enjoy the season.
With several free movie nights already on the calendar and more likely to be announced in the coming weeks, this summer should offer plenty of opportunities to grab a blanket, find a spot on the grass, and enjoy a film under the stars.
Of course, the above list is not a complete one.
Places like Bar Harbor, Brewer, and Portland have also had free outdoor movie nights in years past, so we'll be sure to add more offerings when they are announced.
And if you know of any I've missed in Maine, let me know so I can include them if I haven't already.
