Maine Police Identify the Victims of a Route 9 Double Fatal Crash

Maine Police have released the identities of two people who died when their car collided with a log truck in Township 30.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says State Police and the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Route 9 in Township 30 at approximately 11:00 Wednesday morning. The crash was reported as involving a possible fatality. Deputies who first arrived at the scene confirmed there were two deceased adults in a small sedan. They have been identified as 35-year-old Tiffany Tinker, who was driving the car, and 36-year-old Jennifer Sutherland. Both women are from New Brunswick, Canada.

How Did the Crash Happen?

Police say the sedan containing the two women was traveling westbound on Route 9 when they encountered a loaded log truck on a curved road and the two vehicles collided. Officials say there were also two secondary crashes involving other tractor-trailers that did not contribute to any loss of life. The driver of the log truck was not injured.

Were Road Conditions a Factor in the Crash?

An initial investigation into the circumstances of the fatal crash indicates that Tinker lost control of her vehicle coming around a corner and entered into the path of the logging truck, which was unable to stop in time. Officials say road conditions appear to have been a factor in the crash.
