Hawks Soar In 3rd Beat MDI 46-29 [PHOTOS]
The Hermon Hawks Basketball Team used a strong 3rd Quarter, outscoring MDI 17-5 thanks to 5 3's and beat the MDI Trojans 46-29 in Bar Harbor on Thursday, January 31st.
The score was tied 13-13 at the end of the 1st Quarter and Hermon led 22-19. But the 3-fest from the Hawks in the 3rd Quarter pushed Hermon's lead to 15 points, 39-24 and the Hawks cruised from there.
MDI was led by Derek Collin with 13 points. The Trojans had 3 3-pointers, 1 each by Kyle Nicholson, Brett Duley and Derek Collin. MDI was 10-13 from the free throw line.
Hermon had 3 players in double figures. Kent Johnson had 14 points with 4 3's. Garret Trask had 10 points with 2 3's and Isaac Varney also had 10 points. Cody Hawes and Eli Reed each had a 3-pointer as the Hawks made 8 3-pointers. Hermon was 4-4 from the free throw line.
MDI is now 10-5 and have 3 games remaining in the regular season. They play at Orono on Friday, February 1st, at home on Tuesday, February 5th against Foxcroft Academy on Senior Recognition Night and then end the regular season at Ellsworth on Thursday, February 7th. Hermon, now 15-0 is in 1st place in the Class B Northern Maine Heal Point standings and have 3 games remaining. They play host to Presque Isle on Saturday, February 2nd, at home against Orono on Tuesday, February 5th and close out the regular season on Thursday, February 7th at the Cross Insurance Center against John Bapst.
