Great Harbor Shootout Results – MDI Junior High Girls and DEFY Junior High Boys Are Champs [PHOTOS]
It was a busy, busy weekend on Mount Desert Island and in Ellsworth as over 50 teams competed in the Harbor House's Great Harbor Shootout. The MDI Junior High Girls, DEFY Junior High Boys, Hampden High School Girls and Hermon High School Boys won their tournaments! Congratulations to all who competed
The MDI Junior High Girls entered Sunday morning's game against Old Town just needing a win, as they were undefeated and had beaten Old Town by 1 point Saturday afternoon. But Old Town defeated MDI Sunday morning 39-29, In that game Sydney Loring had 11 points and Logan Gardner had 10 points for Old Town. Leah Carroll had 10 points and Mollie Gray had 6 points to lead MDI.
With that win, Old Town forced a winner take all game. In the final game of the Junior High Girls Bracket, MDI won 37-34 to win the trophy. That means the MDI Girls not only won the Sheriff's Cup, but also the Harbor House Great Harbor Shootout.

In the Junior High Boy's Division the Downeast Family YMCA Team from Ellsworth came out of the loser's bracket and had to play Bangor. The Ellsworth Team needed to win twice, as Bangor was undefeated.
DEFY defeated Bangor in the 1st game, setting up a winner take all championship game. It took double overtime for the game to finally be settled, with DEFY victorious 61-58!
In the Girls High School Championship Hampden defeated Winslow 74-68. Hampden led 18-17 at the end of the 1st Quarter and 32-28 at the end of the 1st Half. Winslow led 51-48 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
Hampden had 3 players in double figures, with Bailey Donovan scoring a game high 36 points. Amelia McLaughlin had 13 points and Camryn Bouchard had 10 points. Hampden was 32-39 from the free throw line.
Winslow was led by Silver Clukey who had 22 points including 3 3-pointes. Page Trask had 19 points and Maeghan Bernard had 10 points. Winslow was 20-31 from the free throw line.
In the final game MDI took on Hermon in the Boy's High School Final. MDI beat Houlton after Houlton beat MDI earlier in the afternoon, and Hermon defeated MCI setting up the final .
Hermon led 14-13 at the end of the 1st Quarter, 35-23 at the Half and 51-36 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
Hermon had 4 players in double figures with Garrett Trask having 18 points, Kent Johnson 16 points, Isaac Varney 11 points and Cody Hawes 10 points. Hermon was 7-10 from the free throw line.
MDI was led by Drew Shea with a game high 19 points and Derek Collin had 11 points.
