Former MDI Trojan Hannah Edgecomb Named Co-Coordinator of UMaine Alternative Breaks
Congratulations to former MDI Trojan Hannah Edgecomb who was named the Co-Coordinator of the UMaine Alternative Break Program.
Alternative Breaks is a volunteer organization that sends students to different areas in need. This is a student led group, where site-leaders are chosen to lead up to twelve students and educate them on a social issue, and eventually spend a week during either Winter Break or Spring break to volunteer.
This Spring Break Hannah led a group of five to Roanoke, Virginia and they focused on the social issue: affordable housing. They ended up rebuilding an entire deck, staircase, finished painting a house, and did yard work for a disabled military veteran.
The chapter at UMaine is extremely dedicated to serving not only those in their own community, but reaching out to people they don't even know. It's a really special program that allows students to give back to others.
Hannah is currently finishing up her third year at the University of Maine, majoring in Music and Psychology with a concentration in Abnormal Psychology and a minor in Interdisciplinary Disability Studies!
