Red Sox Fall to Guardians 8-1 [VIDEO]

The Boston Red Sox fell to the Cleveland Guardians 8-1 on Wednesday night, September 3rd at Fenway Park, snapping their 3-game winning streak.

With Red Sox manager Alex Cora turning the ball over to the bullpen for a "bullpen-game" the Guardians scored 1 run in the 1st inning and then 6 runs in the 2nd inning to take a 7-0 lead early in the game.

Brennan Bernardino started for Boston and lasted just 2/3 of an inning. He gave up a hit and walked 1.

Jordan Hicks retired the last batter in the 1st inning, via a strikeout but then was charged with 4 runs in the 2nd inning, as he couldn't retire a batter. He gave up 4 hits, including a home run.

Zack Kelly proved to be Boston's best pitcher of the night, pitching 4 shutout innings, and allowing just 2 hits. He struck out 4 and didn't walk a batter.

Romy Gonzalez was 2-4.

Nick Sogard, who was recalled from Worcester when Roman Anthony was placed on the Injured List because of an oblique injury was 1-4, driving in Boston's lone run.

Connor Wong was 1-3 with a double, and his hit safely in 13 of his last 18 games.

The loss dropped the Boston Red Sox to 3.5 games back of the AL East leading Toronto Blue Jays, tied for 2nd place with the New York Yankees. Boston is tied with the Yankees for the top spot in the AL Wild Card.

Boston is off on Thursday, September 4th. They open a 3-game series at Arizona against the Diamondbacks on Friday, September 5th. The pregame begins at 8:40 p.m. with the 1st pitch at 9:40 on WDEA AM 1370.
