In a game heard on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio the Ellsworth Softball Team fell to the Brewer Witches 6-4 on Thursday afternoon, May 16th.

Brewer jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning as Becca Gideon blasted a home run over the fence.

Ellsworth battled back in the bottom of the 1st inning. Sara Shea tripled to start the inning and Ellie Clarke walked. Trinity Montigny grounded into a fielder's choice scoring Shea. Kayla Duhaime drove the ball over the fence for a 2 run homer, to tie the score 3-3.

Brewer added a run in the 3rd inning as Kenzie Dore singled, scoring Jordan Goodrich, to make it 4-3 Brewer.

Ellsworth left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 3rd.

The Witches added 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning. Libby Hewes singled, Kenzie Dore doubled, driving in Hewes and then Becca Dideon doubled, driving in Dore. That made the score 6-3 Brewer.

In the bottom of the 5th Ellsworth stranded Sara Shea at 3rd and in the bottom of the 6th inning Kayla Duhaime was stranded at 3rd base.

In the bottom of the 7th Lexi Rossi started the inning with walk and stole 2nd base. She advanced to 3rd on a passed ball and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Sara Shea.

Libby Hewes pitched a complete game for Brewer. She struck out 6 and allowed 7 hits.

Kenzie Chipman threw 5 innings for Ellsworth allowing 6 runs on 9 hits and walked 2. Tyler Hellum pitched 2 innings, not allowing a run and struck out 2, while walking 3 and giving up 1 hit.

For Ellsworth Sara Shea had a triple and single.Kayla Duhaime had a home run and a double. Ellie Clarke had a double. Trinity Montigny had a single.

For Brewer Kenzie Dore had 2 doubles and a single. Becca Gideon had a home run, a double and a single. Jordan Goodrich and Libby Hewes each had 2 singles

Ellsworth is now 7-3 and will play at GSA on Friday, May 17th at 4:30

Brewer is undefeated and 11-0. They will play host to Bangor on Friday, May 17th at 6:30
