The #13 seed Ellsworth Eagles Softball Team pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season on Wednesday afternoon, June 6th in Hermon, defeating the #4 seed Hermon Hawks 6-3 in a Class B North Prelim Game!

Ellsworth entered the game 6-10 and had lost to Hermon 15-3 on May 24th, but the Eagles came in determined and took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 5th inning and then added 4 runs in the top of the 6th to take a 6-0 lead. Hermon added 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th and then 1 more in the bottom of the 7th.

Mackenzie Chipman was the winning pitcher for Ellsworth, going 7 strong innings. She struck out 4 walking 2 while scattering 6 hits. 2 of Hermon's runs were earned.

Bre Oakes was the losing pitcher for Hermon. She gave up 10 hits, 6 runs, although just 2 were earned. She struck out 7 and walked 3.

For Ellsworth Sara Shea was 3-5 with a double and 2 singles and drove in a run. Katleynn Bagley was 2-4. Hannah Sargent was 1-3 with 2 runs batted in. Kayla Duhaime had a single and a run batted in. Mariah Young, Sydney Stevens and Katie Hammer all had a single.

For Hermon Meg Chamberlain had a single and double. Katie Windsor had 2 singles. Laura Zenk and Rachael Balmas singled for the Hawks

Ellsworth now 7-10 will play at the #5 seed Foxcroft Academy Ponies on Thursday, June 7th at 4PM in the Class B North Quarterfinals
