I know I'm a little late in acknowledging the outstanding performance of the Ellsworth High School Jazz Band who won the Silver Medal at the competition on Saturday, March 19th at Hampden Academy.

According to Jamie Calandro the Jazz Band had their highest score in six years.  The pieces they performed included a New Orleans style swing called "Mudbug Strut", the old jazz standard "You Don't Know Me" headlined by Kyla Micalizzi on vocals, and a very difficult arrangement of "Clip Joint Calamity" from the hit video game "Cuphead".

I felt it was such an amazing achievement by our kids given the pandemic robbing us of so much time together over the past two years. We went into the competition just being happy to be back in person, but came home extra satisfied with our level of success.
