Ellsworth High School Signing Day [VIDEO]
Ellsworth High School held their 1st "Signing Day" where seniors who are playing athletics in a Division I, II or III school signed their Letter of Intent to attend the institution. The event was held on Tuesday, June 7th.
Participating were Lucas Fendl, Tyler Hellum, Tori Watkins, Craig Burnett, Kristy Barry, Paige Sawyer, and Hunter Curtis.
Lucas Fendl is the son of Beth and John Fendl. He plans to attend St. Joseph College in Standish, majoring in nursing and swim for the Monks.
Highlights of his EHS Athletic career include
- 4 years varsity Swim & Dive team
- 2022 PVC All Conference 2nd team in the 200 yard medley relay, 200 yard freestyle relay, 400 yard freestyle relay and 3rd team in the 100 yard butterfly.
- Swim team captain in 2022.
- 4 years of Cross Country
- 2 years of Outdoor Track & Field
Tyler Hellum is the daughter of Melanie McCormick and Mark Hellum. She will be attending Thomas College in Waterville and is planning on majoring in business and playing softball for the Terriers.
Highlights of her athletic career at EHS include
- 4 years varsity softball
- PVC Pitcher of the year in the PVC, PVC First team all conference 2021 and 2022
- Finished the 2022 Regular season pitching 78 ⅓ innings and 86 strikeouts. With a batting average of 375 with 14 singles and 4 doubles and was 4 for 5 on stolen bases.
Tori Watkins is the daughter of Mary and Justin Rowell and George Watkins. She plans to attend Thomas College in Waterville majoring in criminal justice. She will be on the outdoor and indoor track and field teams for the Terriers.
Highlights of her athletic career at EHS include
- 3 years indoor track
- 2022 EMITL All conference in high jump, placed 6th in the high jump at the Class B state Championship meet this year.
- In 2020 won the EMITL small school championship in the high jump as a sophomore.
- 4 years Outdoor track
- 2021 PVC Small School champion in the high jump and placed 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles.
- Placed 7th in the 100 meter hurdles at the 2022 Class B state championship meet.
- 4 years of Soccer
Craig Burnett is the son of Helen and Wayne Burnett. He plans to attend Central Maine Community College majoring in business and play baseball for the Mustangs.
Highlights of his athletic career at EHS include
- 4 years varsity baseball
- PVC First team all conference in 2021, 2022
- State Champion in 2019, Northern Maine runner up in 2021
- Finished the 2022 baseball season with an ERA of 0.58 with 40 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched. Batting 0.409 with 9 singles, 8 doubles and 1 triple, also 1 for 1 on stolen bases.
- 3 years of soccer
- 2 years of basketball
Kristy Barry is the daughter of Sno and David Barry. Kristy plans on attending Stonehill College majoring in psychology and criminology and to continue swimming for the Skyhawks.
Highlights of her athletic career at EHS include
- 4 years varsity Swim and dive team
- PVC team runner up in 2022, 2021 (virtual competition)
- 3rd place team at the 2022 state championship - best finish ever by a girls team at EHS.
- Member of the 2022 State champion - 200 yard freestyle relay and 200 yard Medley relay teams.
- 2 year team captain
- 2022 PVC Female Swimmer of the year
Paige Sawyer is the daughter of Angela and Todd Sawyer. She plans to attend St. Joseph College in Standish majoring in nursing and continue participating in soccer and indoor/outdoor track for the Monks.
Highlights of Paige's athletic career at EHS include
- 4 years varsity Soccer
- PVC First team all conference 2021 and 2019, Maine Soccer Coaches Association Class B North Regional All Star team 2021
- Indoor Track
- Qualified and participated in the New England Championship Meet in the 55 meter hurdles 2022. Placed 3rd at the Class B State Meet.
- Outdoor Track
- Placed 4th at the Class B state Meet and again qualified for New Englands. Broke a 20+ year old record in the 100 meter hurdles..
Hunter Curtis is the son of Shannon and Dan Curtis and plans on attending Husson University in the Fall majoring in physical therapy and continuing to play baseball for the Eagles.
Highlights of his athletic career at EHS include
- 4 years varsity basketball
- Northern Maine runner up in 2020, Northern Maine Champion in 2022
- McDonald’s All - star senior year and selected as a Mr. Basketball Finalist
- 4 years varsity baseball
- PVC player of the year in 2021, first team PVC all conference in 2022
- State Champion in 2019, Northern Maine runner up in 2021
- 2 years varsity soccer
- Played goalie - wasn’t going to play this year but ended up filling in and dislocated his shoulder in warmups.
