Ellsworth Girls Win Opener – Beat Washington Academy 60-34

The Ellsworth Girls Basketball Team won their opening game of the 2019-20 season, beating the Washington Academy Raiders 60-34 at Katsiaficas Gymnasium on Tuesday, December 10th.

Ellsworth jumped out to a 15-11 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Trinity Montigny drained 3 3-pointes for 9 points to lead Ellsworth while Sara Shea had 4 points and Samantha Carter 2 points. For Washington Academy Gabby Morang had 4 points and Lucy Kilton had 3 points while Raeanah Reynolds and Riley Frasier each had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter Ellsworth outscored Washington Academy 19-9 to increase their lead to 34-20 at the end of the 1st Half. Montigny had 9 points, Jocelyn Jordan 6 points while Casey Carter scored her 1st varsity points, ending the Quarter with 2 points.Autumn Paul had 2 points For the Raiders, Reynolds had 6 points, Kelci Williams 2 points and Kilton 1 point.

Ellsworth added to their lead in the 3rd Quarter, outscoring Washington Academy 15 to 10, to take a 49-30 lead. Montigny had 3 points as did Shea. Samantha Carter had a 3-pointer, Morgan Clifford scored her 1st varsity points, draining 2 free throws and Carter added 2 more points. For the Raiders, Reynolds had 4 points, Fraiser 3 points and Williams was 2-2 from the free throw line while Kilton was 1-2.

In the 4th Quarter Ellsworth's defense held Washington Academy to just 4 points. Reynolds hit a 3-pointer while Sarah Moulton was 1-2 from the free throw line. Meanwhile for Ellsworth Morgan Clifford, Casey Carter, Samantha Higgins, Sara Shea and Kayla Duhaime each had 2 points while Montigny was 1-2 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was paced by Trinity Montigny with a game high 23 points, while Sara Shea had 10 points. Ellsworth was 4-11 from the free throw line.

Washington Academy was led by Raeannah Reynold with 15 points. The Raiders were 13-22 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth, 1-0 will play at MCI on Saturday, December 14th at 2:30 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device

Washington Academy 0-1 will play host to Mount View on Saturday, December 14th at 1:30 p.m.
