Ellsworth Girls Basketball Team Outlasts Orono 46-41

The Ellsworth Girls Basketball Team outlasted the Orono Red Riots on Saturday afternoon, December 8th winning 46-41, in Orono to start the 2018-19 season with a win.

Ellsworth jumped out to a 8-5 in the 1st Quarter. Trinity Montigny had 4 points and Kylie Robidoux and Autumn Paul had 2 points each. For Orono Lauren Melanson had 3 points and Ellie Sockabasin 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter Ellsworth outscored Orono10-7 to take a 18-12 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Montigny had 7 points, with a 3-pointer, and Samantha Carter had a 3-pointer for Ellsworth. For the Red Riots Sockabasin had 4 points, Alyssa Labelle 2 points and Melanson 1 point. In the Quarter Orono was 5-7 from the free throw line.

In the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth outscored Orono 17-13 to take a 35-25 lead. Andrew had 5 points with a 3-pointer for the Eagles. Robidoux, Montigny and Sara Shea each had 4 points. For Orono Labelle had 2 3-pointers for 6 points, Melanson had 4 points and Sockabsin had 3 points.

In the 4th Quarter Orono outscored Ellsworth 16-11 but were unable to get closer than 4 points. Melanson had 7 points, Labelle had 5 points with a 3-pointer and Izzy Baker and Sockabasin had 2 points each. Orono was 5-9 from the free throw line in the Quarter. For Ellsworth Montigny had 4 points including 2 crucial free throw. Andrews had a 3-pointer while Ella Hubbard and Robidoux had 2 points each for the Eagles.

Ellsworth was led by Trinity Montigny who had a game high 19 points, while Kylie Robidoux and Sierra Andrews each had 8 points. The Eagles were 4-6 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Lauren Melanson with 15 points, Alyssa Labelle had 13 points and Ellie Sockabasin had 11 points. The Red Riots were 12-23 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth, 1-0 travels to Old Town on Wednesday, December 12th at 7PM.
