Ellsworth Falls in Prelims 49-41 [Box Score/Recap/Photos]

The 6th seeded Ellsworth Eagles fell to the Orono Red Riots, the 11th seed, 49-41 at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth, in a Class B North Prelim Game. Orono led for all but 1 minute in the 2nd Quarter. Orono was 14-19 from the free throw line, including 9-12 in the decisive 4th Quarter.

Orono jumped out to a 11-7 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Sam Marin had 6 points, Jonathan Steelman 3 points and Ryan Shorette 2 points. For Ellsworth Connor Crawford had a 3-pointer for 3 points, Zach Harris and Jackson Curtis had 2 points each.

Orono led 19-14 at the end of the 1st Half, thanks to a couple of 3-pointers by Jonny Spencer and Zach Dill. Chance Walston also chipped in with 2 points for Orono. For Ellsworth Curtis had 4 points and Harris had a 3-pointer.

Orono led 29-26 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. For Ellsworth Dylan Taplin and Jared Hamilton each had 4 points. Harris had 3 points and Bradly Smith 1 point. For Orono Dill and Spencer had a 3-pointer for 3 points and Marin and Shorette had 2 points each.

In the 4th Quarter Jonathan Steelman had 12 points for Orono, going 8-9 from the free throw line. Martin had 4 points and Dill had 4 points including his 3d 3-pointer of the night. For Ellsworth Harris had 7 points including a 3-pointer, Curtis 4 points and Taplin and Javon Williams 2 points each.

Ellsworth was led by Zach Harris with 14 points and Jackson Curtis 10 points. Ellsworth was 6-11 from the free throw line.

Orono had 3 players in double figures, Jonathan Steelman with 15 points, Sam Marin with 12 points and Zack Dill 10 points. Orono was 14-19 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth's season ends with a record of 11-8 and Orono improves to 7-12 and will play the 3rd seeded Presque Isle Wildcats on Friday night, February 16th.
