The Ellsworth Boys Basketball Team used a dominant 3rd Quarter outscoring MDI 20-2 to beat the Trojans 64-30 on Friday night, February 26th in the final game of the 2020-21 irregular "regular" season. The win avenged their 75-71 loss to the Trojans on February 11th.

MDI took a 18-14 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter as the Trojans hit 4 3-pointers. Charlie Parker had 2 3-'s for 6 points. Grady Wellman-Webster had a 3-pointer and 5 points. Porter Isaacs had 4 points and Ethan Merchant, celebrating his 18th birthday, had a 3-pointer. For Ellsworth Chance Mercier had 6 points, Hunter Curtis 4 points and Miles Palmer and Brody Mercier 2 points each.

In the 2nd Quarter it was Ellsworth's turn to hit 3-balls. as they sank 4 of them in the Quarter, outscoring MDI 17-10 to take a 31-28 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Eamon MacDonald had 2 3-pointers for 6 points. Hunter Curtis had a 3-pointer and was 1-2 from the free throw line for 4 points. Gage Hardy and Brody Mercier each had 2 points for Ellsworth. For MDI Ethan Merchant had 6 points and Porter Isaacs 4 points.

In the 3rd Quarter it was all Ellsworth as they outscored MDI 20-2 to take a 51-30 lead. Hunter Curtis had 5 points, Chance Mercier had 4 points. Brett Bragdon and Eamon MacDonald each hit a 3-pointer. Gage Hardy had 3 points and Miles Palmer 2 points for the Eagles. MDI's lone points came from Charlie Parker on the free throw line.

In the 4th Quarter Eamon MacDonald hit his 4th 3-pointer for Ellsworth and Brett Bragdon his 2nd 3-pointer. Chance Mercier had 4 points and Brody Mercier added 2 points. For MDI Brady Renault had 6 points and Alex Gray and Porter Isaacs each had 2 points.

Ellsworth was led by Chance Mercier with 14 points while Hunter Curtis had 13 points and Eamon MacDonald 12 points. Ellsworth was 5-12 from the free throw line.

MDI was led Porter Isaacs with 10 points while Ethan Merchant finished with 9 points. MDI was 5-7 from the free throw line.

Ellswoth finishes 1st with a 9-3 record and MDI 8th with a 4-8 record. The 2 teams will meet again in a quarterfinal playoff match-up on Tuesday, March 2nd at Katsiaficas Gymnasium at 7:15 p.m. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP, on any Alexa enabled device and live-streamed on the Ellsworth High School You Tube Channel
