Ellsworth Boys Sink Free Throws Beat Old Town 72-65

The Ellsworth Eagles Boys Basketball Team celebrated Coach Peter Austin's birthday and went 22-33 from the free throw line on Tuesday, January 15th, defeating the Old Town Coyotes 72-65 at Katsiaficas Gymnasium.in Ellsworth.

Ellsworth jumped out to a 17-7 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter, and led 29-12 at the end of the 1st Half. Old Town outscored Ellsworth 25-13 in the 3rd Quarter to cut Ellsworth's lead to 5 points 42-37. But Ellsworth hit their free throws when it counted and held on for the 7 point win.

Ellsworth had 4 players in double figures led by Jackson Curtis with a game high 24 points. Curtis was 7-10 from the free throw line and had a 3 pointer. Hunter Curtis had 14 points and was 6-7 from the free throw line. Austin Harris had 13 points with 1 3-pointer and was 4-6 from the free throw line and Darby Berry had 12 points, with 2 3's and 2-2 from the free throw line.

Old Town sank 13 3's and was led by Colby Archer with 23 points and 7 3's. Shawn Hoogterp had 15 points with 4 3's and Mike Brown had 13 points with 1 3-pointer. Old Town was 6-10 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth, now 8-4 is in 4th place in the Class B Boys Heal Point Standings. Ellsworth will play host to John Bapst on Friday night, January 18th. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device with the pregame starting at 6:45PM

Old Town, 2-11 plays host to Foxcroft Academy on Thursday, January 17th at 7PM.
