The Ellsworth Eagles Boys Basketball Team ran past the Washington Academy Raiders 62-42 on Wednesday, January 8th in East Machias. Eamon MacDonald scored his 1st varsity points with a 3-pointer and Brody Mercier scored his 1st varsity points, going 2-2 from the foul line. Hunter Curtis ripped down 10 boards.

Washington Academy took a early 12-9 lead in the 1st Quarter as the Raiders were very patient and methodical. Josh Ketchen had 5 points with a 3-pointer while Cecil Gray had 4 points and Jax Lin had 3 points. For Ellsworth Jackson Curtis had 3 points and Darby Berry, Austin Harris and Hunter Curtis all had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter, a combination of Ellsworth's strong defense and poor shooting by Washington Academy resulted in the Raiders being scoreless while Ellsworth went on a 11-0 run to take a 20-12 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Austin Harris had 8 points with 2 3-pointers. Hunter Curtis had 2 points and Jackson Curtis was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth outscored Washington Academy 25-16 to take a 45-28 lead. Jackson Curtis had 8 points. Brett Bragdon drained back to back 3-pointers for 6 points. Hunter Curtis had 5 points. Darby Berry and Connor Crawford each had 3-pointers. For Washington Academy Lin had 9 points. Ketchen had another 3-pointer and Evan Ackley and Daniel Huang each had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter Ellsworth had 3 more 3-pointers. Jackson Curtis had 4 points . Austin Harris, Eamon MacDonald and Brett Bragdon each had a 3-pointer. Adam Inman had 2 points and Brody Mercier had 2 points. For Washington Academy Evan Ackley and Ezekiel Olivares each had a 3 pointer. Andon Wood had 4 points as did Daniel Huang.

Ellsworth was led by Jackson Curtis with 16 points while Austin Harris had 13 points. The Eagles were 7-10 from the free throw line

Washington Academy was led by Jax Lin with 12 points. Josh Ketchen had 8 points. The Raiders were 6-10 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth is now 6-2 and will play host to MCI on Saturday, January 11th at 2:30 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Washington Academy is now 7-4 and plays at Mount View on Saturday, January 11th.
