The Ellsworth Boys Basketball Team was trailing MDI 40-34 at the end of the 3rd Quarter but outscored MDI 22-3 in the 4th Quarter to beat the Trojans 56-43 in the Boys Playoffs at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth, Tuesday, March 2nd. Ellsworth will advance to play Old Town, in Ellsworth on Friday, March 5th at 5:30 p.m.

Ellsworth led MDI 9-7 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Chase Mercier, Hunter Curtis and Eamon MacDonald all drained 3-pointers for the Eagles. For MDI Porter Isaacs, Ethan Merchant and Brady Renault each had 2 points while Grady Wellman-Webster was 1-2 from the free throw line.

The 2 teams were deadlocked 26-26 at the end of the 1st Half. The Trojans drained 5 3-pointers in the 2nd Quarter. Grady Wellman-Webster had 8 points with 2 3-pointers. Brady Renault had 6 points, with 2 3-pointers and Charlie Parker had  3-pointer for 3 points. Porter Isaacs chipped in 2 points. For Ellsworth Chance Mercier had 9 points with a 3-pointer. Hunter Curtis, Brody Mercier, Eamon MacDonald and Michael Palmer all had 2 points for the Eagles.

In the 3rd Quarter MDI took the lead, 40-36, outscoring Ellsworth 14-8, Porter Isaacs scored 8 points for MDI, as the Trojans pounded the ball into the paint. Ethan Merchant, Grady Wellman-Webster and Spencer Laurendeau each had 2 points. For Ellsworth Chance Mercier , Hunter Curtis and Brody Mercier each had 2 points while Miles Palmer and Brett Bragdon were each 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 4th Quarter Ellsworth turned up the defensive intensity while MDI went cold from the field. Chance Mercier had 10 points, going 4-4 from the free throw line. Hunter Curtis had 8 points with a 3-pointer and went 3-4 from the free throw line. Brody Mercier had a basket and Michael Palmer was 2-2 from the free throw line. For the Trojans, Wellman-Webster had 2 points and Brady Renault was 1-2 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Chance Mercier with 24 points while Hunter Curtis finished with 15 points. The Eagles were 17-20 from the free throw line.

MDI was led by Grady Wellman-Webster with 13 points while Porter Isaacs finished with 12 points. MDI was 2-4 from the free throw line.
