Ellsworth Boys Fly Over Orono 72-41
The Ellsworth Boys Basketball Team beat the Orono Red Riots 72-41 on Wednesday, December 18th at Katsiaficas Gymnasium. Ellsworth players, Nick Kane and Kolbe Hardy scored their 1st varsity points with Kane draining a 3-pointer and Hardy finishing with 5 points.
Ellsworth jumped out to a 23-14 lead in the 1st Quarter. Jackson Curtis had 13 points for Ellsworth with a 3-pointer, while Darby Berry had 5 points including a 3-pointer and Austin Harris had 3 points with Adam Inman chipping in 2 points. For Orono Zach Dill and Jason Desisto each had 7 points, with each having a 3-pointer.
Orono outscored Ellsworth 14-13 in the 2nd Quarter, but the Eagles led 36-28 at the end of the 1st Half. Desisto had 8 points with 2 3's for Orono, Dill had 4 points and Javier Santiago added 2 points. For Ellsworth Jackson Curtis had 6 points, Connor Crawford drained a 3-pointer and J'von James and Hunter Curtis each added 2 points.
In the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth outscored Orono 16-6 to take a 52-34 lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Jackson Curtis again paced the Eagles with 8 points. Darby Berry and Austin Harris each had a 3-pointer and Hunter Curtis added 2 points. For Orono Dill, Willem Crane and Desisto each added 2 points.
The 4th Quarter saw Ellsworth Coach Peter Austin substituting frequently. Hardy had 5 points. Jackson Curtis had 4 points. Darby Berry had 4 points with his 3rd 3-pointer of the night. Brett Bragdon and Nick Kane each had a 3-pointer while Austin Harris was 1-2 from the free throw line. For Orono Noah Parker had 4 points and Ellis Spaulding had a 3-pointer.
Ellsworth was led by Jackson Curtis with a game high 31 points while Darby Berry had 12 points. The Eagles were 8-12 from the free throw line and hit 8 3-pointers.
Orono was led by Jason Desisto with 17 points while Zach Dill had 13 points. The Red Riots were 2-2 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth now 2-1 will play host to Houlton on Saturday, December 21st at 3:30 p.m.
