Ellsworth Boys Beat Back Belfast 68-40
The Ellsworth Boys Basketball Team showed no signs of rust after not playing a game in over a week, beating the Belfast Lions 68-40 at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth on Saturday, December 22nd.
Ellsworth umped out to a 19-9 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Jackson Curtis had 6 points, his brother Hunter Curtis 4 points, Connor Crawford a 3-pointer, Devin Grindle 3 points, going 3-4 from the free throw line, Austin Harris 2 points and Norman Jodrey 1 point, going 1-2 from the free throw line. For Belfast Andrew Ackles had 5 points, with a 3-pointer. Wilder Magruder had a 3-pointer, and Dakota Payson was 1-2 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth increased their lead to14 points at the end of the 1st Half 33-19 as the Eagles outscored Belfast 14-10 in the 2nd Quarter. For Ellsworth Hunter Curtis had 4 points, as did Norman Jodrey and Austin Harris. Jackson Curtis had 2 points. For Belfast Jason Bartlett had 4 points with a 3 pointer, Chris Kelley had a 3-pointer and Magruder had 3 points.
In the 3rd Quarter Ellsworth outscored Belfast 14-11 to take a 47-30 lead. Jackson Curtis had 6 points, Darby Barry a 3-pointer from the corner, and Jodrey and Hunter Curtis 2 points each. Devin Grindle was 1-2 from the free throw line. For Belfast Kelley had 9 points with a 3-pointer while Bartlett chipped in 2 points.
In the final Quarter, Deyan Rich scored his 1st Varsity Points, scoring 4 points. Jackson Curtis had 6 points. Austin Harris had points, Hunter Curtis 3 points, Malcolm Svec 2 points and Brett Bragdon was 2-2 from the free throw line. For Belfast Tanner Veilleux and Tommy Walker each had a 3-pointer, Dakota Payson had 2 points, and Chris Kelley and Wilder Magruder were each 1-2 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth had 3 players in double figures. Jackson Curtis had a game high 20 points, Hunter Curtis 13 points and Austin Harris 10 points. The Eagles were 8-21 from the free throw line.
Belfast was led by Chris Kelley with 13 points. The Lions were 5-10 from the free throw line
