Eagles Rain 3’s on Crusaders Win 73-57 [PHOTOS]
The Ellsworth Eagles Boys Basketball Team beat the John Bapst Crusaders 73-57 in Ellsworth on Friday, January 18th. Darby Barry drained 7 3's for Ellsworth, including 4 3's in the final quarter.
Ellsworth jumped out to a 18-17 lead in the 1st Quarter. Barry had 2 3's for 6 points, "Birthday Boy" Hunter Curtis had 4 points, Connor Crawford had a 3-pointer, Jackson Curtis 3 points and Devin Grindle 2 points for the Eagles. For John Bapst Jagger Cumming had 6 points with a 3-pointer, Rhett McDonald had 4 points, Nick Marvin a 3-pointer and Ethan Newcomb and Alec Gagnon 2 points each.
Ellsworth outscored John Bapst 21-13 in the 2nd Quarter to take a 39-30 lead at the end of the 1st Half. For Ellsworth Jackson Curtis had 10 points, Norman Jodrey 6 points, Barry another 3-pointer and Grindle 2 points. For the Crusaders Sam Peterson had 7 points with a 3-pointer and McDonald, Cummings and Marvin had 2 points each.
Ellsworth increased their lead to 16 points at the end of the 3rd Quarter, 56-40, outscoring the Crusaders 17-10. Jackson Curtis had 8 points, Grindle a 3-pointer and Hunter Curtis, Jodrey and Barry had 2 points each.For John Bapst Peterson had 4 points, and Gagnon, McDonald and Newcomb 2 points each.
Ellsworth was led by Darby Barry with 23 points and Jackson Curtis had 21 points. Devin Grindle had 9 points. In addition to Barry's 7 3's, Connor Crawford and Devin Grindle each had a 3-pointer. Ellsworth was 8-12 from the free throw line
John Bapst had 3 players in double figures, with Rhett McDonald having 16 points, Jagger Cummings had 11 points with 2 3's. Sam Peterson had 11 points with a 3-pointeer. Alec Gagnon and Nick Marvin each had a 3-pointer. The Crusaders were 5-8 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth is now 9-4 and off until next Friday, January 25th when they will play at Presque Isle at 7:30PM.
John Bapst is 3-10 and plays next at Foxcroft Academy on Saturday, January 26th at 7PM.
