If you live or have lived on MDI, you've probably been touched in some way by Dr. Edward Gilmore, who has practiced at Mount Desert Island Hospital for over 46 years. Dr. Gilmore will be honored at MDI Hospital's Annual Meeting on Monday, August 7th from 4PM to 7PM at the Bar Harbor Club at 111 West Street in Bar Harbor. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this free celebration. Hor's de oeuvres will be served.

Dr. Gilmore has been recently honored by the Maine Medical Association for his 50 years of service. He is recognized as a Master of the American College of Physicians, the highest recognition available. Since 1997 Dr. Gilmore has been practicing at MDI Hospital's Cooper Gilmore Health Center, named for him and his late friend and colleague Dr. Llewellyn Cooper.

Dr. Gilmore has received the Laureate Award and Master Teacher Award from the Maine Chapter of the American College of Physicians as well as the Advocacy for Nursing Award from the Maine State Nursing Association. Dr. Gilmore is MDI Hospital's 1st Chief Medical Officer. He has previously been the President of the Medical Staff, Chief of Medicine and the Medical Director of the ICCU.

At the Annual Meeting, MDI Hospital will also celebrate its 120th Anniversary and there will be a summary of the past year's accomplishments and financial performance. The cocktail reception honoring Dr. Gilmore will be from 4PM to 5:30PM with live jazz performed by the Sam Reeves Trio. The meeting program will be from 5:30PM - 7PM and will feature a special tribute to Dr. Gilmore and a video message from Senator Angus King.
