The Detroit Tigers humbled the Boston Red Sox on Monday night, beating them 14-2 in the opening game of the 3-game series in Detroit.

Tanner Houck was totally lost on the mound for the Red Sox He started the game and only managed to get through 2.1 innings, allowing 9 hits and 11 earned runs. He didn't strike out a batter and walked 3, giving up 2 home runs.

Sean Newcomb pitched the remainder of the game as Alex Cora tried to keep the bullpen fresh. He pitched the final 5.2 innings allowing 9 hits and 3 runs, striking out 4.

Wilyer Abreu hit a solo home run in the 6th inning, his 11th homer of the season.

Abraham Toro, playing 1st base hit his 1st homer, in the 9th inning.

David Hamilton was 2-2

The Red Sox only had 6 hits in the game, while Detroit had 18 hits.

Boston committed 2 errors.
