Crusaders Nip Trojans 45-41 [STATS]

The John Bapst Crusaders Boys Basketball Team went to Bar Harbor and came away with a 45-41 victory over the MDI Trojans Wednesday, February 3rd at Bernard Parady Gymnasium.

John Bapst jumped out to a 13-7 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Cayman Zephir hit 2 3-pointers for 6 points. Corey Butler added a 3-pointer and Jon Pangburn and Jordan Kimball each had 2 points for the Crusaders. For MDI Grady Wellman-Webster had a 3-pointer while Ethan Merchant and Henry Lester each chipped in 2 points.

MDI outscored John Bapst 5-4 in the 2nd Quarter t cut the lead to 17-12 at the end of the 1st Half. Wellman-Webster had 3 points for MDI while Kadin Reed added 2 points. For John Bapst Zephir and Jaeden Sockbeson each had a basket.

MDI took the lead in the 3rd Quarter, outscoring John Bapst 17-10 to take a 29-27 lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Brady Renault let the Trojans with 5 points including a 3-pointer. Spencer Laurendau had a 3-pointer and Ethan Merchant had 3 points. Maddox Laurendeau and Wellman-Webster each had 2 points and Walker St. Germain was 2-2 from the free throw line. For John Bapst Michael Shepherd and Caman Zephir each had a 3-pointer, while Jordan Kimball and Luke Norman each had a basket.

In the 4th Quarter, Shepherd hit 2 more 3-points for John Bapst. Zephir and Pangburn each had 4 points while Sockbeson and Patrick Raymond each chipped in with 2 points. For MDI Wellman-Webster had 4 points, Maddox Laurendau had a 3-pointer. and Kadin Reed had 3 points. Ethan Merchant was 2-3 from the free throw line.

John Bapst hit 7 3-pointers on the night with Michael Shepherd and Cayman Zephir each hitting 3, while Corey Butler had 1. Zephir had a game high 15 points while Shepherd finished with 9 points. The Crusaders were 2-6 from the free throw line, with Pangburn icing the game hitting 2 free throws with 1.8 seconds left.

MDI was led by Grady Wellman-Webster with 12 points while Ethan Merchant had 7 points. The Trojans were 7-15 from the free throw line.
