Prior to the MDI-Winslow football game on Friday, September 21st the Coach Shields' Victory Bell was unveiled and rang for the first time.

When Coach Mark Shields stepped down after coaching MDI's football team for 22 years, 15 as head coach, Trojan alumni wanted to honor him. Led by Andrew Leiser, they collected money from the community for a bell that could be rung after Trojan victories.

On the field for the unveiling and ringing for the 1st time were Coach Mark Shields and family, including his wife Holly, MDI Principal Matt Haney, MDI Athletic Director Bunky Dow and Andrew Leiser.

Here are Coach Shields prepared remarks that he read on field before ringing the bell

"I have always said I am a cursed man because I love MDI Football players, always have and always will. It has been a true honor to be your coach for the past 22 years This bell is not the Mark Shields' Bell, it is for everyone in our school and community. This is for every MDI player and coach that steps on this field and every fan that sits in those bleachers. I have also always said that the scoreboard is not the most important thing on field tonight. The most important thing on this field tonight will be these amazing kids from both schools playing their hearts out. Thank you so much and Go Trojans! "
