The 24th  Annual Carol Dyer Luminaria Evening will be held on Saturday night, August 9th on the Village Green in Bar Harbor..

Organized by the YWCA of Bar Harbor, it is sure to be  another hauntingly beautiful night in Bar Harbor. As dusk approaches, luminary bags will be placed along the pathways and circling the gazebo in the Village Green. Written on each bag will be the  names of those either fighting (In honor of) cancer or those who had passed (in memory of) from cancer. All the proceeds will be given to Sarah's House of Maine, in Holden, which provides a home away from home, free of charge for Mainers who must travel for cancer treatment.

You can pre-order your luminaria HERE. Luminaria bags are $10.00 each.

Carol Dyer was the beloved children's librarian at the Jesup Memorial Library who passed away from brain cancer.

I have had the honor of reading the names of those on the bags in the past, and am honored to be able to do so again on August 8th.

Reading the names is such a poignant moment. I recognize many of the names that are either fighting or who have passed. Unfortunately it seems, every year more names are added to the in memory of column.

As I read their names, I will offer a silent prayer for the survivors, for those who have passed and their friends and family that cherish their memories. I truly hope that we can find a cure for cancer, and soon.
