It's pretty hard to surprise Brian Langley at the Hancock County Technical Center. The owner of the Union River Lobster Pot has been instrumental in the success of the students there through the Bridge Program and through SkillsUSA. As a matter of fact Brian is a former Culinary Arts Instructor at HCTC.

But they surprised him and how on Wednesday February 25th. Langley thought he was going to be pumping up the SkillsUSA students, but instead they presented him with the Pillar of Success Award.

Here's what Tara Mason read to the assembly

This award recognizes the achievements of volunteers who have contributed time, talent and financial support to our state association. Their generous support of our SkillsUSA association serves as a pillar of our success. We honor volunteers to continue and deepen relationships.

Our local HCTC chapter is proud to recognize Brian Langley and The Union River Lobster Pot for their continued support of HCTC and our students. Our students have had amazing opportunities and success in all programs within our SkillsUSA chapter here at HCTC, and we can thank Brian enough for being a part of  that success.

Mr. Langley has a passion for CTE and the opportunities it provides for students.  He spent ten years serving in the Maine Legislature. He can still be seen, often, advocating for CTE at the state level as well as putting himself in front of various organizations throughout the state to provide education on the importance of career technical education. While in the legislature he advocated for wrap-around early college programming for CTE students which then developed into Bridge Academy Maine.  As the executive director for the past seven years, he coordinates the state-wide delivery of early college programs into Maine’s career and technical education centers that house Bridge Academy cohorts.

At the SkillsUSA Maine state level, Mr. Langley has served as the contest chair for Commercial Baking.  Mr. Langley is invested in providing opportunities to students to help them further their education and opportunities that will help further their interests. Mr. Langley and his restaurant play a key role in assisting students with the ability to travel to the National Conference each year.

Thank you Mr. Langley and congratulations!
