The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 5-3 on Friday night, June 5th at Yankee Stadium.

Willson Contreras hit a 2-run home run in the 5th inning, his team-leading 13th of the season. He finished 2-4, driving in 3 runs.

Andruw Monasterio, starting at 2nd base hit a solo homer, his 2nd of the season in the 4th inning.

Sonny Gray pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 8 hits and 3 runs, striking out 3 and walking 2 to improve his record to 7-1.

Aroldis Chapman picked up the save, his 13th of the season, pitching a hitless 9th inning.

After Thursday's game the Boston Red Sox optioned Brayan Bello to Triple A Worcester, moving Garrett Crochet to the 60 Day Injured List.

Boston is now 27-35 and the Yankees are 37-26. The 2 teams will play Saturday night, June 6th in the 2nd game of the 3-game series. The pregame starts at 6:35 with the 1st pitch at 7:35 on WDEA AM 1370.
