The Boston Red Sox won their 6th straight game, beating the Kansas City Royals 8-5 on Monday night, August 4th at Fenway Park.

Boston is now 63-51, a season-high 12 games over .500 and for the 1st time, they are 12 games over .500 since the end of the 2021 season when they were 92-70. They are the hottest team in Major League Baseball going 23-8 in their last 31 games.

Jarren Duran hit a 3-run homer, his 12th of the season, in the 1st inning, when Boston scored 5 runs. Duran had a highlight reel catch in front of the Green Monster.

Wilyer Abreu was a last minute replacement for Roman Anthony, and he went 2-3. Anthony missed the game with "back tightness" and is scheduled to miss Tuesday's game as well.

Rob Refsnyder was 1-4 with a 2-run single.

Romy Gonzalez was 2-4 and had a double and single.

Brayan Bello picked up the win and is now 8-5 on the season. He went 6.0 innings, holding the Royals to 1 run . He struck out 5, walked 1 and allowed 6 hits.

Steven Matz pitched the 7th holding the Royals hitless. However Jorge Alcala and Justin Wilson were charged with 4 runs and gave up a combined 5 hits retiring just 2 batters. Manager Alex Cora was forced to call in Garrett Whitlock to get the final ut in the 8th inning and then use Aroldis Chapman in the 9th. Chapman picked up his 21st save.

Boston is in 2nd place in the AL East standings, 3.0 games back behind the Blue Jays. The Red Sox own the top wild card playoff spot.

Boston and Kansas City will play the 2nd game of the 3-game series Tuesday night, August 5th with the pregame starting at 6:10 and 1st pitch at 7:10 on WDEA AM 1370.
