What a night in New York! The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 3-1 to take Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series on Tuesday, September 30th.

Garrett Crochet went 7.2 innings, pitching a career-high 117 pitches to lead the Red Sox. He allowed just 4 hits, and 1 run, striking out 11 and didn't walk a batter. The lone run came on a 2nd inning Anthony Volpe homer.

Aroldis Chapman came on and earned the save pitching the last 1.2 innings. He loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the 9th, getting the last batter, Trent Grisham,  to strike out on a 101 mile per hour fast ball.

The Red Sox finally scored after they chased Max Fried after 6 innings. Fried allowed just 4 hits and struck out 6 and walked 3.

But int he 7th inning the Red Sox scored 2 runs. Masataka Yoshida pinch-hitting drove in 2 runs with a single, scoring Ceddanne Rafaela and Nick Sogard. Sogard had doubled putting Rafaela at 3rd when Yoshida delivered.

Alex Bregman doubled in the 9th driving in Trevor Story for the 3rd run for the Red Sox.

Sogard, Bregman and Story each had 2 hits.
