The Boston Red Sox beat the Atlanta Braves 3-2 on Saturday night, May 16th thanks to Willson Contreras' 2-run home run in the 8th inning and an outstanding pitching effort by Payson Tolle.

Trailing 2-1, it looked like the Red Sox were going to waste another strong effort by their starting pitchers. But Contreras' 9th home run of the season, a 2-out blast proved to be the difference in the game.

With the bullpen taxed, Tolle delivered a masterpiece. He pitched 8.0 innings and allowed 4 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 3 and walked 1 improving his record to 2-2 and dropping his ERA to 2.05.

Aroldis Chapman picked up the save, his 10th of the season. He is now tied for 10th for most saves all times with Joe Nathan at 377. It wasn't an easy save. With 2 outs, Andruw Monasterio, playing shortstop committed a throwing error. Chapman then walked 2 before getting the final out on a groundout that hit him on the mound.

Monasterio was playing shortstop in place of Trevor Story who was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a sports hernia. The Red Sox recalled Nick Sjorgard from Worcester to take his place on the roster.

Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela each had a double.

Masataka Yoshida drove in Boston's 1st run with a sacrifice fly.
