Red Sox Beat Jays 4-1 Reducing the Magic Number to 3 [VIDEO]

The Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 on Tuesday night, September 23rd, reducing their Magic Number to clinch a wild card playoff spot to 3, with 5 games left to play.

Lucas Giolito started on the mound, and went 4.2 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 run, walking 4 and striking out 3. Justin Wilson ended up with the win, pitching 1.1 innings and is now 4-1 on the season. Garret Whitlock pitched the 7th inning, Justin Slaten the 8th inning and Aroldis Chapman the 9th inning. Chapman earned his 32nd save of the season. Boston's pitching didn't allow a batter to reach base in the final 3 innings.

Nathaniel Lowe drove in 2 runs for the Red Sox, going 2-2. Carlos Narvaez had a double and drove in 2 runs.

Wilyer Abreu had a double, in his 2nd game back from the injured list.

Masataka Yoshida was 2-4 with a double.

Boston was 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left 7 runners on base.

Boston owns the 2nd Wild Card spot, 1 game ahead of the Detroit Tigers, who lost to Cleveland 5-2 last night. The Red Sox are 2.0 games ahead of the Houston Astros, who are 1 game behind the Tigers for the final wild card spot. Boston closes the season with 3 games with the Tigers at Fenway Park, Friday-Sunday.
