Red Sox Swept by Twins Losing Sunday 6-5 [VIDEO]

The Boston Red Sox were swept for the 3rd time this season, losing to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday 6-5 and are now 8-17 at Fenway Park.

Trailing 6-4 Boston scored 1 run in the bottom of the 9th inning and then had Connor Wong thrown out at the plate for the 2nd out of the inning in a play that was confirmed by replay, despite it looking like the catcher was blocking the plate.

Willson Contreras was 2-4 with a game-tying 2 run home run in the 4th inning. It was his team-leading 11th homer of the season.

Masataka Yoshida hit his 1st homer of the season, and 1st since September 28, 2025. He finished 2-4 with a double.

Wilyer Abreu was 2-4 with a pair of doubles.

Marcelo Mayer was 1-4 with a RBI single and Nick Sogard hit a lead-off triple in the 9th inning.

Sonny Gray started for the Red Sox. He went 4.0 innings allowing 6 hits and 3 runs, striking out 4 and walking 2.

With the Red Sox off on Monday, manager Chad Tracy emptied his bullpen using 6 pitchers in relief. Tyson Guerrero ended up with the loss and is 0-1 as he was charged with 2 run on 2 hits, striking out 2.

Prior to the gam the Red Sox reinstated Danny Coulombe from the injured list and option Tyler Samaniego to Worcester. Samaniego had posted a 1.04 ERA (2 ER/17.1 IP) with a 2.13 opponent average (13-for-61) and 13 strikeouts in 18 relief appearances this season Coulombe pitched a scoreless 5th inning, striking out and walking 1.

Boston is now 22-30 and Minnesota is 26-27.

The Red Sox are off on Memorial Day, May 25th, and will open a 3-game series at home with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, May 26th. The pregame starts at 5:45 with the 1st pitch at 6:45 on WDEA AM 1370
