For the 1st time since 2012 when they lost their 1st 3 games, the Boston Red Sox have started the season 0-2, after losing to the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 on Saturday afternoon, April 3rd.

For the 2nd day in a row the Red Sox wasted a strong starting pitching effort. Saturday, Tanner Houck went 5.0 innings allowing 6 hits and 3 runs, 2 of which were earned while striking out 8 and walking just 1. He took the loss.

Austin Brice made his 2nd consecutive appearance out of the bullpen and has tossed 1.2innings of scoreless and hitless relief.

Darwinzon Hernandez allowed 2 hits and 1 run while striking out 2/

Phillips Valdez who struggled in Spring Training threw 2 innings (8th and 9th innnings) of hitless relief.

Marwin Gonzalez was 2-2 with a sacrifice fly.

JD Martinez was 3-4 with a double and a RBI

For the Orioles Maikel Franco was 1-4 with a 2 out 2 run single, in the 4th inning.

Matt Harvey threw 4.2 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 4 and walking 1. Adam Plutko picked up the win, with 2.1 innings of pitching, striking out 2 and allowing 2 hits.

Cesar Valdez picked up his 2nd consecutive save, throwing the 9th inning, striking out 1, walking 1 and hitting a batter.

The Red Sox will send Garrett Richards to the mound on Sunday, looking for their 1st win of the season. Meanwhile, the O's will counter with Bruce Zimmerman as they look to sweep the 3-game series.
