After dropping their 1st 2 games of the 2022 season, the Boston Red Sox have won 3 of their last 4 games and beat the Detroit Tigers Wednesday afternoon 9-7 in Detroit.

The game was 9-2 at the end of 7.5 innings, but Detroit scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th off of Austin Davis and 3 runs off of Kutter Crawford in thee bottom of the 8th. It could have been worse but Jake Diekman struck out 2 batters in the 8th and Hansel Robles picked up his 1st save shutting the door in the 9th inning.

Nathan Eovaldi started for Boston and went 5 innings. He allowed 4 hits and 2 runs, both homers, while striking out 6 and walking 1

Matt Barnes pitched a scoreless 6th inning.

Eduardo Rodriguez, signed by Detroit as a free agent from Boston over the winter started for the Tigers and lasted just 3.2 innings. He allowed 5 hits and 7 runs, although just 2 were earned. He struck out 5 and walked 1 taking the loss.

Boston's bats which had been quiet, woke up and banged out 12 hits.

Kike Hernandez who was hitless in Boston's 1st 4 games went 2-5 with a homer and double, driving in 2 runs.

The Red Sox hit 5 doubles on the afternoon. In addition to Hernandez's double, Jackie Bradley Jr. had 2 doubles and drove in 3 runs.

Rafael Devers, Bobby Dalbec and Alex Verdugo all doubled.

Every Red Sox batter with the exception of Christian Vazquez had a hit, although Vazquez did drive in a run with a sacrifice fly.

The Red Sox are now 3-3 on the season and return home to Fenway Park. They are off on Thursday before starting a 4-game series with the Minnesota Twins. Tanner Houck is scheduled to start Friday's game. The pregame starts at 1:10 p.m. with the 1st pitch at 2:10 p.m. on AM 1370 WDEA.
