Bar Harbor Veterinarian Dies in House Fire
A Bar Harbor veterinarian was killed in a fire at her home Wednesday afternoon.
The State Fire Marshal's office says 46-year-old Melissa Watership was found unresponsive in her kitchen when crews arrived. Watership lived in the house at 9 Center Street, right next to the hospital, with her husband. He was at work when fire broke out mid-afternoon. Watership was taken to the hospital where she later passed away.
Watership was a veterinarian at Bar Harbor's Acadia Veterinary hospital. It's believed the family dog also perished in the fire.
Investigators will now work to determine what started the blaze.
